Great conversation Leah. It is something I have been thinking about on and off for a while now. I find myself intensely disliking Facebook for many reasons, but mainly due to the lack of depth it causes. It's so easy to click "like" or make a comment here and there, plus delete something you may feel uncomfortable about sharing, but where does this leave our friendships? I don't even get longer in depth emails as much these days from certain friends as FB has become more preferable. However - I find myself still drawn to it. I like looking at people's photos, or staying in touch with family members I may be less in touch with without FB, though ultimately, it is still just brief comments or quick updates.
Maybe that's why so many people use it, it's 'convenient'.

Wow Kurt, It's like you cracked open my heart and mind and put those feelings and thoughts down on paper. This has struck a cord with me in a way that you may never know. And I know that each day comes as it's own and not every day is perfect but Praise Jesus for allowing you to experience this Joy. May we all one day know it.

Grace from our Lord Jesus, the extravagant Love of God, and fellowship of the Holy Spirit,

Laura

Kurt, thank you for sharing this and so eloquently. I understand what it is to have friends whose identities are in Jesus rather than their significant other and their world is so much bigger because of it (being some of the better examples of Jesus' love in my life). This story has not only given me tremendous hope for having that kind of community but reminded me to help create that kind of community whether one is "alone" or "together" (I like how you put that).

Best,
Audra

p.s. You also make pretty pictures.

This is kind of hilarious, because when I was still dating Mike, Luz told me in secret that she thought Mike looked like Samwise Gamgee. Any time the four of us were together (me, Mike, Bratchers), it was extremely hard to not bust our guts over it, since Mike wasn't aware of his doppelgänger.

So if we're being technical, my husband is my Sam. HAHA.

Hey!
I just came across your blog courtesy of the guest post featuring Kurt Simonson and was really moved. My wife Beth had him as a professor while attending Biola University as an art major, and while I never had the same opportunity (being a film major from the same school), I always admired his work and basically always wanted to be best friends with the guy. The theme of Alone/Together is one I can definitely relate to, and one that a lot of my work has revolved around. If you have the time, feel free to take a look at this short documentary I made a few years back. Although it hasn't been featured in many film festivals, word on the street is that it's still being shown in Biola's Advanced Documentary class, which is pretty cool, I think.

Thanks for all the great posts!

Roasted. Root. Vegetables. It's frustrating that I like them so much because they take so long, but they're worth it. Sweet potatoes, parsnips, and onion with curry or cumin and garlic.
